Who are Nubians

Nubians are those people who live in the far north of Sudan , it comprises two areas ( Dongola and Halfa ). Their language differ a bit from each other, but they have the same culture and traditions . They were light dark green in color , they were a haematic race , they spoke nubin in Halfa area and ushkir in Dongola . Their main career or job is cultivating land , they were farmers . In the past they used water wheels to pumps water to irrigate their fields (called in arabic : sakia ) , now they depend on more sophisticated pumps that draw water by means of electericity or gasoline .They specialized in producing winter crops such as wheat ,ficia faba ,chickpeas, and so many pulses and vegetables.
The far north of nubian area inundated by high dam waters which constructed in Eygpt (an area about 150km now under water) , so the government of Sudan transfered people who live in this area to a place called Khashim Algirba in eastern Sudan ( Kassala Province )in 1964-65 . And to settle those imigrated people the government of Sudan estatblished an agric. project at the western banks of Atbra river in Butana plain , also to resettle the nomadic indigenous peole of Butana .
Some people refused to migrate to this new area and face harsh times, their houses demolished by the flood and they lost all their arable lands , so they depend in their livelihood on compensation that they get due to their lost houses , grooves and lands and on money that sent by their kins from abroad .
Those who migrated to Khashim Algirba encountered by a different environment that characterized by high rains during rainy season ( May - Sept. ) , those people do not used to high rains . The government allocated about 15 feddans (acres ) for each family to grow cotton , peanuts and wheat , also they recieved free-hold lands in compensation for their lost lands . In coming posts i will write more .
new halfa .
